The main inspiration for the AD House was the breathtaking landscape surrounding the site. Situated on the highest part of the location, the design maximizes the panoramic views of the region. The house integrates with nature through the use of light materials and transparent elements, creating a seamless connection between the interior and exterior.
One of the unique features of the AD House is its integration of green spaces within the structure. This innovative approach not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also provides natural cooling in the warm climate of Teresina. The ground floor encompasses a spacious kitchen, garage, living and dining rooms, patio, and other functional areas. The first floor houses the private spaces, including the bedrooms. The rooftop serves as a communal space where residents can gather and relax, enjoying the stunning views.
The realization of the AD House involved the use of advanced construction techniques and materials. Ceramic bricks were used for the walls, while the structure was made of concrete. The roof features thermo-acoustic aluminum tiles, ensuring thermal insulation and acoustic comfort. Additionally, the brise soleils, located on the west and south facades, were created using the traditional Japanese technique of Shou Sugi Ban, which involves charring wood to enhance its durability.
With a site area of 814 sqm and a constructed space of 495 sqm, the AD House stands as a testament to Flavio Melo Franco's architectural prowess. The design not only captures the essence of contemporary living but also prioritizes sustainability and integration with the natural environment.
Flavio Franco, along with Shiduo Nagano, led the design team responsible for this remarkable project. Their meticulous attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills allowed them to overcome various challenges, such as the complex structure required to support the swimming pool on the second floor, which can be viewed from the ground floor.
The AD House is a true masterpiece of contemporary design. Its concrete and gray tones, complemented by natural materials such as stone and wood, create a harmonious color palette. The carbonized wood slats on the west and south facades not only add a touch of elegance but also provide protection from the intense afternoon sun. The windows throughout the house feature a smoked film, reducing light intensity in the double-height spaces. At night, the AD House transforms into a captivating composition of lights and shadows, showcasing the importance of lighting in the overall design.
The AD House has received well-deserved recognition and was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges the AD House as a well-designed, practical, and innovative creation that meets professional and industrial requirements. It is a testament to Flavio Melo Franco's commitment to excellence and his contribution to a better world through architecture.
